Range Etiquette: Creating a Safe and Respectful Shooting Environment

A great day on the range starts with more than good weather and well-thrown targets. At Jacksonville Clay Target Sports, a strong culture of safety, respect, and sportsmanship ensures that every shooter, regardless of experience level, can enjoy their time on the course.

Range etiquette plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. Simple practices such as keeping actions open when not shooting, wearing eye and ear protection at all times, and being aware of surroundings help protect everyone on the range. These habits quickly become second nature and contribute to the professional atmosphere JCTS is known for.

Communication is another important part of good etiquette. Clear verbal cues at each station, confirming when shooters are ready, and maintaining awareness of others in your group help keep the course running smoothly. Taking turns respectfully and allowing groups to maintain a steady pace ensures an enjoyable experience for everyone.

Respect extends beyond safety procedures. Encouraging fellow shooters, offering help when appropriate, and maintaining a positive attitude contribute to the strong sense of community at JCTS. Sporting clays can be challenging, but the experience is always better when shooters support one another.

New shooters are especially encouraged to ask questions and take their time learning proper range behavior. At JCTS, experienced shooters often take pride in helping newcomers feel comfortable and confident. This shared responsibility strengthens the club’s culture and reinforces the idea that everyone plays a role in maintaining a positive environment.

By practicing good range etiquette, members and guests help preserve the high standards that make Jacksonville Clay Target Sports a place shooters are proud to return to.
