Aiming for the Future: Jacksonville Clay Target Sports Youth Programs

Jacksonville Clay Target Sports is proud to support the next generation of shooters through its growing youth programs. The club proudly hosts the Jax Clay Target Busters, a program designed to give young athletes a safe, structured, and affordable way to learn the fundamentals of clay target sports.

As part of the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP), the Jax Clay Target Busters follow a nationally recognized model for youth development in shooting sports. Participants receive instruction in firearm safety, technique, and sportsmanship, all under the guidance of certified coaches.

The team trains and competes at JCTS’s fully-equipped facilities, offering students the opportunity to develop both skill and confidence on the range. Many athletes also take part in local, regional, and national SCTP competitions, gaining valuable experience in a supportive and team-oriented environment.

To make the sport accessible, JCTS covers each participant’s $25 annual membership fee and works to remove financial barriers through the support of an NRA Youth Clay Sports Development Grant. This grant helps subsidize the cost of targets and ammunition, allowing participants to shoot without heavy expense. For those who do not own a youth shotgun, JCTS also provides equipment, ensuring that every interested student has the chance to take part.

The Jax Clay Target Busters are led by an experienced coaching team that includes Head Coach and Jacksonville University Shooting Team Captain Hector Rangel, along with assistant coaches Kaylee Joseph, Samantha McInteer, Neesa DaCosta, Maddie Cutler, Lola Fitzgerald, and Gracie Davidson. Together, they provide professional instruction and mentorship, helping students develop discipline, responsibility, and focus both on and off the range.

Jacksonville Clay Target Sports remains committed to fostering a safe, educational, and inclusive environment where young shooters can learn, compete, and build confidence.
