This guide will walk you through what to expect so you feel confident, prepared, and ready to enjoy your time on the range.
What to Wear and Bring
Dress comfortably and be prepared to move through outdoor courses. Wear closed-toe shoes, and we recommend weather-appropriate clothing that allows for easy movement. Eye and ear protection are mandatory for all shooters and should be worn at all times while on the range. Make sure your firearm is in good working condition and that you’re familiar with basic firearm handling and safety.
When You Arrive
Check in at the clubhouse, where first-time guests are asked to watch a short safety video. Our staff will then walk you through the layout of the facility, explain how to use the target card readers, and show you how to operate the trap machines. While full instruction isn’t included, our team ensures you understand the basics before heading out.
Safety Comes First
At JCTS, safety is our top priority. Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times while on the course. Firearms should remain unloaded until you're at the shooting station and ready to fire, and must always be pointed in a safe direction. Range Officers and staff are always on hand to monitor the grounds and uphold safety standards.

Where to Start as a Beginner
Jacksonville Clay Target Sports offers a variety of disciplines, including trap, skeet, sporting clays, and five-stand. For newcomers, trap and skeet tend to be the most approachable. These disciplines offer consistent target presentations that help you build confidence and refine your aim.
