At Jacksonville Clay Target Sports, nothing is more important than everyone’s safety. Our club is built on respect for the sport, for the equipment, and for each other. To ensure everyone has a great and secure time on the range, we follow a clear set of rules and practices. Whether you’ve been shooting for years or this is your first time stepping on the line, please take a moment to review these safety guidelines.
The Basics Everyone Should Know:
● Keep actions open unless you’re on the shooting station and ready to fire. For break-open shotguns, you may close the action only when placing it in a rack, but reopen it immediately when lifting it out.
● Only load on the station. Once your turn is finished, unload before turning around or walking away.
● Always keep your gun pointed in a safe direction, whether it’s loaded, unloaded, or with the action open.
● Know your firearm. Make sure you’re familiar with how it operates and never fire a gun you suspect isn’t working properly.
● Ammo guidelines: Use only shot size #7 -1/2 or smaller, and never mix gauges—this can create dangerous obstructions.
● Stay clear-headed. Alcohol, drugs, or impairing medications have no place on the range.
Range Officers are on patrol whenever we’re open to help oversee activities, answer questions, and step in if a situation arises. If you see something unsafe, don’t hesitate to let a Range Officer or the clubhouse staff know. By following these simple rules, we can all enjoy a safe, fun, and welcoming environment at JCTS.
We’ll see you on the range!
